Sami Reindeer Experience with short Sledding, Feeding and Culture
The Reindeer Camp is located a 30-minute drive from Tromsø city centre and here you can feed the herd of around 200 reindeer who will swarm all around and even eat from your hands.
After some explanation about reindeer sledding, you go on a short sled ride. The reindeer live wild for most of the year and are at the camp for a few months over winter to protect them from predators and harsh conditions.
Inside a gamme (a traditional Sami hut) warm drinks and a traditional Sami meal will be cooked over the fire and then served. Afterwards you are invited into a lavvo (Sami tent) to gather round the fire and listen to stories about Sami culture, life as a reindeer herder and a joik (traditional Sami song).
*Reindeer sledding is subject to snow conditions.
Alternative tour: Since the reindeer sledding is subject to snow conditions, we offer the Sami Reindeer Feeding instead when there is not enough snow.
