Fjord Cruise to Barentsburg
The Isfjord is one of the largest fjords in the Svalbard archipelago, and is easily accessible from Longyearbyen during the summer months. We provide daily sightseeing tours where you will experience the scenic landscape: glaciers, characteristic layered and flat-topped mountains, the rich bird life and cultural remains from all of Svalbard’s historic eras.
We have daily departures on our comfortable high-speed catamaran MV Aurora Explorer from Longyearbyen along the coast to Barentsburg, passing the mountain Fuglefjella and Grumantbyen, an abandoned Russian coal mining camp.
We spent 90 minutes in Barentsburg. A local guide will take you on a guided walk, and you will have some time to explore the Russian coal mining town at your leisure. After a fascinating time in Barentsburg, we return by boat to Longyearbyen. You can enjoy this voyage on the outer deck or in the warm and cosy saloon, surrounded with panoramic windows.
If you are interested in wildlife, we recommend bringing your own binoculars.
There is a kiosk on board where you can buy something to quench your thirst or subdue your hunger with a “Real Turmat” expedition meal.
